BENOIT GIVES NOTICE; OSBOURNE QUITS

The NWA suffered a double blow when "Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit and "The Madman from The Badlands" Glen Osbourne both exited the NWA over the weekend, with WCW preparing for the double battle royals on Nitro Monday.  Benoit gave notice, which will keep him around maybe for a couple of cards.  Osbourne, feeling he wasn't getting much TV exposure and felt the board was keeping him mired in mid-card status, quit immediately.  Osbourne had a PPV match against Sting, which he won at World War 3.

VADER WANTS HIS BELT BACK AT ANY COST!

NWA World Champion Vader wants the NWA to do something about reclaiming the title belt he won from the Giant at World War 3, and do so at any cost.  "I want my belt back," Vader demanded.  "Hart and McMahon had no right or reason to steal the belt and claim it when it doesn't belong to them.  If I have to locate this Capital Wrestling Corporation myself and rip the belt out of Hart's hands, then I'll do that!"

SPIVEY JOINS UNEMPLOYED

"Dangerous" Dan Spivey was the next wrestler to be removed from the NWA roster, as it was announced he was released following NWA's Main Event program Saturday night.  As had been with Andre Rousimoff and Dean Malenko, lack of work or direction was cited as the reason for his termination.  Spivey was one of the final four when WCW held its tournament for the WCW title in July, and was eliminated by The Rock.

NWA RELEASES ANDRE; MALENKO FROM ROSTER

The NWA decided upon cutting two veteran performers from the NWA-WCW roster in an effort to cut down on the number of grapplers on the combined roster.  Unfortunately, the cuts came in the direction of Andre Rousimoff (formerly the Giant) and "Iceman" Dean Malenko.  The reason given for the releases were that neither man had been used that much over the last couple of months and they could find work elsewhere on a regular basis, possibly with one of the NWA's member organizations.  Perhaps, as well, the WWF or Vince McMahon's fledgling CWC (heaven forbid!) could offer them roster spots.  Neither wrestler could be reached for comment.

NWA WORLD TITLE STOLEN BY HART AND MCMAHON; CLAIMS IT TO BE CWC WORLD TITLE; OTHER TITLES GAINED AT WW3

A very good night was had during World War 3 but ended as a bad night for Vader, who had the NWA World Title stolen from him moments after defeating The Giant for the belt.  The culprits?  Bret Hart and Vince McMahon, who snatched the belt after a cowardly attack on the big man after the Chairshot Survival Death match with Giant.  Bret used a chair that had been a weapon in the match and beat Vader to the mat.  Then after tossing McMahon the title belt, he snapped Vader into the Sharpshooter, and refused to release the hold, even after referees tried to pull Hart off the new NWA champion.

The reason for the belt's theft as Vince McMahon, in a taped statement sent to Nitro, announced the creation of a new wrestling promotion, Capital Wrestling Corporation, and named Bret Hart as its first champion, with the NWA belt being considered the CWC World Title!  Bret gloated, as if he actually beat Vader for the title in the assault.  McMahon also told anyone from the NWA to keep their distance from the CWC, or he would consider them trespassers!  Vader began destroying the ringside area since the pair basically told him he wasn't getting his title belt back.  NWA President Harley Race has made no comment yet as to the situation and what he would do about the theft of the World Title.

Also at WW3, Rob Van Dam failed in his quest to unify the United States titles of the NWA and Florida.  Chris Jericho beat Van Dam in a thrilling match.  Also, Justin Credible won his second title, defeating Mr. Perfect for the NWA World Hardcore title (with help from Lance Storm), and Edge became the new NWA International Champion, defeating Takashi Iizuka in their tournament final.  Bill Goldberg and Steve Austin picked up their third NWA World Tag Team Titles by defeating Hawk and Power Warrior in the final match of a best-of-seven series, held inside a cage.  The fine match was marred by interference by Sable & Nicole Bass, as well as Barry Windham & Scott Steiner, who tried to keep the Hell-Raisers from regaining the belts.  As a result, the four Hell-Raisers challenged the four interferers to a match set for Nitro, won by the Windham-led foursome.

JUST INCREDIBLE!  CREDIBLE ENDS WALTMAN'S SHORT WCW TITLE REIGN!

In three days time, "Showman" Sean Waltman went from top to flop.  He wasn't given a chance to defeat Cactus Jack for the WCW, but did so to silence his critics on October 12.  Three days later, he was predicted to take care of his first opponent for the title, Justin Credible, and the opposite happened again!  Credible walked out with the WCW title, and now has the opportunity to become a double champion as he wrestles the tournament final for the NWA World Hardcore Title.

"Now I'm getting respect and recognition for what I do," Credible said.  "It's taken a few months, but I'm finally making a definite impact on the sport of pro wrestling."

Thanks to this development, once again the triple threat match slated for World War 3 has become a contender's match, with the winner between three ex-champions--Waltman, Cactus and Arn Anderson--to get a WCW title shot on next Monday's Nitro, the night after the PPV.
